The Federal Government has confirmed that the Sagamu-Benin Expressway will be inaugurated on December 15, 2024. The announcement was made by the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, during an inspection of the road with Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun.
Umahi stated, “I came so that the sufferings of our people on this road would end. An action is being deployed as the Federal Government would begin a comprehensive palliative of the 120km road from Monday, October 14, starting from the interchange section.” He further revealed that solar lights would be installed along the entire 120-kilometer stretch of the highway to improve safety, adding, “In addition, we are going to push and complete everything by middle of December, so that by December 15, the Governor-General of the South will inaugurate it on behalf of Mr. President.”
According to The Punch, Governor Abiodun commended President Bola Tinubu for his swift intervention. He remarked, “I must thank Mr. President for keeping his promise. He directed the Works Minister to intervene not more than a week after I inspected the Interchange to Sagamu town section following distress calls by motorists.”
The reconstruction work on the failed portions of the Sagamu-Ore-Benin Expressway has already commenced, aiming to alleviate the severe traffic gridlock that motorists have faced on the road.
